ABOUT US

You have found us!

Farm & Harper is the realisation of a lifelong dream for restaurateur team Sarah & Phill MacGregor. Finally finding the ideal space in the perfect location marks out Farm & Harper as one of Kent’s must-visit restaurants – a unique, happy place for you to breakfast, lunch & dinner in the heart of Whitstable.

At Farm & Harper, honesty and respect are at the heart of everything we do – values that matter most to us.

We are a straightforward partnership between our developing, family run farm on the outskirts of Whitstable and our buzzy High Street kitchen designed for guests to feel part of the experience. There are few middlemen here because good value for our guests and the provenance of what we serve comes first and foremost. We aim to achieve our own, distinctively honest Farm & Harper culture. Our openness about what we serve will be reflected in long-lasting and loyal relationships with customers, staff, suppliers and even our farm animals!

We hope to see our happy punters soak up the sights and smells of our open kitchen. Phill MacGregor joins forces with BERTHA (our affectionately-named charcoal oven) to cook consistently excellent dishes. These flavours are married (quite literally) to top notch front of house manager, Sarah MacGregor, who brings a service that is relaxed and a family friendly touch to the Farm & Harper atmosphere.

Our team all have something special in common – they care! From preparing a decent cup of ethically sourced and freshly roasted coffee for your morning takeaway, through to those personal touches that make a celebration dinner truly memorable, our folk do it with pride because they know that at Farm & Harper you’re onto a seriously good thing.

Farm & Harper blends our laid-back seaside surroundings together with beautifully prepared, locally sourced food. Come and join us in our friendly dining rooms for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a coffee – you’re most welcome!

THE BERTHA WAY

Love at first sight!

Chef Phill MacGregor and BERTHA began their relationship when he fell head over heels for her compact and powerful physique, reliability and low maintenance!

A rare British beauty, BERTHA brings something new and exciting to the iconic Whitstable dining scene. A sight for sore eyes, she stands in all her glory next to her doting Chef who also adores her for her unrelenting versatility and performance in the kitchen.

Not just a good looker, BERTHA is a charcoal fired goddess capable of high heat chargrilling, slow roasting and even smoking. Coupled with her passionate chef even the humblest of ingredients are transformed into the tastiest of morsels: from lovingly reared meat to local fish and the simplest of vegetables, BERTHA enhances flavour like no other.

Farm & Harper’s happy couple not only look good together but cook good together. Come and experience our match made in heaven at work.

THE FARM

Up with the lark 7 days a week, Farm & Harper is an all-day affair. That’s the farm too: now that the restaurant is open we are concentrating on the development of the farm – a short drive along the Kent coast to follow your food back to where it was born & bred. We can point you in the right direction to where our happy livestock is respectfully reared.

Our Farm Manager is as obsessed with quality as we are and shares our values and dedication to the welfare of the animals. Down on the farm, it’s all about tradition, stripping farming and rearing animals back to their roots and achieving excellence through traditional methods. For our family who live and work at the farm, the emphasis is on lovingly reared livestock and respect for the environment. As the farm develops we expect our kitchen to have a steady supply of the freshest and most local food possible.

The farm is in its early stages and will grow but may never be large enough to support our growth goals. We also work with other local farmers and suppliers maintaining established relationships and a collaborative local supply chain. We believe that having our own farm will help us better understand our valued suppliers’ day to day lives.

Both farm and restaurant are staffed by people who are passionate about an honest working relationship. Our Chefs who are trained to cook everything from scratch, regularly visit our farm. This enables them to understand how everything on the menu is bred and gives them inspiration for new dishes. Our Farm Manager liaises with our Chefs regularly to ensure our restaurant’s daily changing specials, often only available in short supply are the very best of what’s available.
